1. If you are looking for the complete book of Psalms, nothing added or left out (which for some reason is hard to find) this is for you.2. I've heard the Bible on CD's read in such a monotonous tone you can neither follow nor keep awake. This reader has a pleasing voice read with enough drama to give it meaning without being over done. Perfect.3. The KJV is not my personal preference, but it is poetic and many of the phrases have become part of our language so are familiar.I even like the short intervals of 16th century music (is there a CD of this?). I needed to study the psalms now which is why I bought this, but can imagine using it for soothing background even when finished. Just nothing to criticize-well done.

The 150 Psalms are narrated in the language of the King James Bible; among the Psamls are well-known, inspirational verses; darker lines about punishment and revenge; and some oddly indulgent writings that appear to be focused upon David. A singularly valuable resource for anyone striving to intimately acquaint themselves with the Psalms and understand their emotional expression. 4 CDs, approx. 5 hours 17 min.
I try and read several Psalms each day. I have a schedule that allows me to read through in 30 or 31 days, depending on which I use. Having the Psalms alone on my Kindle makes it so much easier than getting out my Bible.
I was looking for a simple recitation of all the Psalms. And this is one of them. However, it is the KJV (which I knew) and I found it hard to follow because of this (all the thee's and thy's and thou's). The man recites the Psalms very well. He has a soothing voice. He does have a bit of an accent so that coupled with the KJV = wish I had purchased another Bible translation that is easier for me to follow. I will keep listening to it though.
For me, I love to read The Book of Psalms and own several digital ones in my Kindle. This is the ONLY one that I have found is exactly what is says it is - FORMATTED FOR KINDLE! And when reading on a 7 inch Kindle, it is still easy to read because it fills up the page so nicely and IT IS CLEAR AND SO EASY TO SEE (even without my reading glasses)!Also, it is easy to navigate in this book for instance, I read Psalm 91 often, and if I left off say in Psalm 2, then I go to Table of Contents and find Psalm 91.Although I also own a free copy of the KJV (King James Version) The Psalms on Kindle, this this so much better to read and navigate through. If you love to read the Book of Psalms, I highly recommend this book, it is well worth the cost (every cent)!
Alex Jennings does a good job as a reader. His reading of the Psalms is almost understated. No exaltation, no theatrical emotions. He lets the Psalms speak for themselves, and this makes it captivating to listen to these records. Had they not included very short musical pieces at the beginning of some (very few) of the psalms, i would have loved this recording even more. The scant musical decorum unnecessarily suggests a particular historical and cultural context, and thus, in my view, contradicts the universality of the message of the Psalms. And the KJV language sounds like a wonderful music to me, making any instruments and choirs superfluous.
Obviously if you're purchasing this set you are Christian and enjoy the book of Psalms. This set is very well done and the reading is excellent. It is in the King James Version but due to the psalms natural English poetic nature this (English) speaker reads and verbalizes it very well. The choir and organ music played between a psalm every so often is at first annoying but as you sink into the wonderful spoken word of psalms it adds a "pause and consider" peaceful air to the recording. I enjoy the interlude. If King james bothers you, you may or may not like it. If you can't stand King James you won't like this either. But as I said, due to the nature of Psalms and it's naturally poetic style, the King James fits very well. If you're a lover of Psalms you'll love this!
Although there's a sample button you can play, the kindle version of this is NOT audio--it's just the text. Since you can get the whole Bible on your Kindle for free, this is NOT worth $2. I was very disappointed.
