I discovered this delightful book - one of a few with CDs included - from Barefoot Books at Book Expo in New York last month. In reading the reviews already posted I noticed a few things about this book are missing and maybe those who have the book aren't getting the full enjoyment from it.Most folks (I've not read all the reviews) talk about the colorful illustrations (they are) and the song on the CD. What many don't realize is that the singer is Steve Roslonek, better know for the show Stevesongs on PBS. Steve specializes in kids music and has been releasing albums since the mid 1998. If you like Steve's voice you might want to "google" his name and discover more of his music.The next thing is that I'm not sure that many of those who purchased this book realize that the CD does play in their CD player as an audio CD but it's really a CD-ROM and if you put it in your PC Drive, click on the drive and then on the BarefootWindows.exe icon it will open to become a multimedia version. First you can watch the ANIMATED version of the story with Steve singing. Then you can choose the version with the "bouncing ball" and follow along. A third option is to have just the music (karaoke-style) with the printed lyrics and you can "be the star" as the video says. When I say the word "you" I mean you and your child (or children).So, if you are reading this review and already own the book, and haven't put the disc in your PC yet.... I am an elementary music teacher. I teach all the regular K - 5th grade students and I have taught autistic children for the last six years. I am always on the lookout for materials that will interest kids who are profoundly autistic, often many are non-verbal. This book is one the best I've come across. It deals with concrete ideas, clear pictures and it's just a well written and nicely performed piece of music. I use some musically marginal material that works for these kids but this is music I enjoy myself and so do the support folks that work with these kids. I haven't gotten around to fitting it in with the rest of my curriculum but I'm sure Kindergarten would love it too!
I have several of these Barefoot Books! My students love them. They are very affordable, especially since they come with a CD. Also, there are versions of ALL of these books free on YouTube. You can create a playlist and show it on a Smart Board, great for end of the day while dismissing students. If you don't have a Smart Board, (parents) you can view them on your phone or on iPad.
This is an excellant book. The music that goes with the book is very engaging for children and families to sing together. I teach 3 to 5 year olds and this book was such a big hit I just had to buy it.
I bought this for my two year old grandson. He loved it. It is great how they apply the shapes to music. I would always recommend this product to someone who has toddlers, it makes learning fun. Plus the author is very well known for his children's books.
All four of my grandkids ages 4, 2 1/2, 22 months and 15 months love this! Especially the 2 middle ones. They go through the book pointing at the shapes and singing the song. I found myself singing today after my granddaughter had left!
This is a BIG hit in my classroom!!! The children are so calm while listening to the book and so enjoy it..
I love the illustration & song that goes with this book, and so did my 4-5 yr old Pre School class. They asked for it over & over again, as did my own 3 year old. I borrowed it from the library but must now own it.
