A beautifully simple celebration of silence, and the need to listen... I purchased 3 copies for our Reggio-Emilia inspired preschool.Buddhism for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers!
We were talking about mindfulness in the children's Sunday school class that I help teach. The text of Silence is engaging and speaks directly to the ideas we wanted to share. The illustrations are simply beautiful. Silence greatly enhanced our gathering that Sunday morning.
This is a simple easy read but very thoughtful. Makes us stop and think which is sometimes difficult in this fast paced world.
This is a colorful book, and the intent is good. But if you have a child who loves a story, you'll need to add a few sentences here and there. The art is...OK. It's not gorgeous by my standards, but others may like it more; we all have different tastes.
Silence is the ray of Sun that encourages the mind to blossom. This gorgeously illustrated book teaches children (and perhaps adults) just that: the meaning of silence, solitude, and a reflective mind. Accepting who we are as human beings (and the whole of existence in general), patience, equanimity and being fully present in any given moment are the foundations of most spiritual disciplines. And solitude is, as Rainer Maria Rilke expressed in Letters to a Young Poet, conducive to unbounded creativity. Here, the Lemniscates team has created a gem.
My pleasure to read it as a bed time story for my son. I guess this will be other popular book for him. I have just went through it. It is amazing.
Awesome book to help my daughter settle down for bedtime or a nap. Also great for helping her remember to slow down and try to notice the little things and her surroundings.
This short book offers profound lessons in the virtue of sometimes being silent and listening to yourself and to the world.
