My four and six year old children loved this book! They laughed out loud as each page was turned. The drawings are simple, clear and colorful with happy, friendly sea creatures. The giant squid is a likable character who is proud to be the biggest thing in the ocean. When the unexpected happens, it goes with the flow and makes the best of its new situation. The bonus bathtub clings were also a huge hit with my kids. They have them all over the tub and are now creating their own versions of this wonderful story. This new author /illustrator is talented and one I want to watch!

I am a teacher and a mother of three young children (a 4 yr old girl and twin 3 yr old boys). My three loved this book and had me read it over and over again. They laugh out loud each time we read it. I can even see it being used in the classroom - having young children write their own book and being, "The biggest thing in their world". I loved this author's concept and hope he has many more to come.

I am strangely obsessed with the giant squid, so obviously I had to order this book. My son is 7 months old and this is one of his favorites, he often pulls it out of the pile and starts to chew on it expectantly. The pictures are colorful and clear and really seem to grab his attention. It is a great length to read to a little one. And I love the silly side of the story and squid's optimism, I think my son will continue to enjoy the story as he gets older and is able to understand more.

Meh. There are so many cute books out there, and this one just doesn't do it for us. There isn't much of a story development, and my child (20 months old) doesn't seem to care about the squid at all. He kind of likes the pictures of the shrimp and fish, but gets bored really easily. He usually loves books, and will read on my lap all afternoon, so the fact that he won't sit through this very short book says that it's not that interesting.

This book is really fun and my little girl loves the funny twist at the end. She also likes that she can anticipate the text enough that she can "read" it herself. The way the words are written makes the story more lively so it's not boring to read it over and over and the illustrations really hold preschoolers' attention with the bold colors and clearly drawn sea creatures. I'm really glad I bought this book.

My kids LOVE this book. When they were younger we would read this with funny voices and faces and they were thrilled. Now the are learning to read and it's easy enough for them to read themselves. Good positive outlook book.

My toddler son is obsessed with this book. It's a simple story with repetitive text and he loves trying to "read" it himself. The giant squid is very proud that he is the biggest thing in the ocean and goes though naming all the animals he is bigger than...until he gets eaten by a whale. He is a little disappointed, but then realizes he is is biggest thing inside the whale. It has nice bright illustrations as well.

This is a daily read for my 2 and 5 year-old boys. "Big in the Ocean", as my little guy calls it, is a wonderful book: a simple but compelling story, a great lesson, lots of little creatures to count, and good practice for beginning readers. Both boys adore the book, and the 5 year-old oftens reads it to his brother. Together they count shrimp, clams and fish, whisper when the shark appears, and giggle with glee at the end. They love it so much, I'm buying another copy for their school! The clings look like fun, but would probably end up in the 2 YO's mouth, so I'll hold off using for a year.
