Not bad for an Italian textbook. I don't have much standard for comparison. Read assigned sections an made an A in the class. It is written quite clearly. However, I feel that it switches to givingi nstructions o exercises in Italian too early.
This book was by far the worst foreign language textbook I have ever used, and I am horrified at how much my professor relied on students to read it outside of class. The book is so disorganized and scattered that it is confusing for students. In one section, I recall reading an exercise and noting that it used conjugations/phrases that weren't even taught/explained until 100 pages later!If you are required to use this book for class, I suggest seeking out an additional resource.
I have been using this book for over a year. It is absolutely terrible. The approach is is to teach by omission with incomplete examples and explanations, leading to confusion on the part of the student. For instance, one rule in Italian is that you attach reflexive, direct object and indirect object pronouns to the end of the infinitive form of a verb. One does not get an inkling that this is a general rule until the special cases of prima di + infinitive and dopo + past infinitive are introduced in Chapter 11 ! The rule is mentioned for direct object pronouns in Ch 9, but not mentioned at all for indirect object pronouns in the same chapter. There are a multitude of other examples of poor and incomplete explanations.The exercises in the accompanying software are riddled with mistakes and inconsistencies. And, you can enter a perfectly correct answer in an exercise and it will be wrong .... you get a zero .... if it is not the answer the software expects. Even for instances where the book explicitly tells you that there are two correct ways to implement a certain grammatical construction.
Wonderful explanations and exercises for practicing grammar, knowledge of culture, vocabulary... Great set up: includes regions with each chapter and has very up-to-date information on rules and use of grammatical structures, idioms and vocabulary! Great for ALL Italian teachers, tutors and self-guided learning of Italian.
Ordered this book for my daughters summer college class. Book was shipped on June 5th according to email from . She finishes Italian class the 28th of June and she is still waiting on the book. This has been hard on her not being able to do the homework. I know the seller said in listing shipment could be anywhere from the 1st to the last part of the month but I thought since it shipped on the 5th it would get there in a timely manner . If possible this book will be going back since there is no need for it now.
THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR BEGINNERS LIKE MYSELF. I BOUGHT IT FOR CLASS AND IT HAS DEVELOPED MY LANGUAGE SKILLS IN ITALIAN. IT HAS GIVEN ME KNOWLEDGE IN THE CULTURE AND THE FOODS OF ITALY. LOVE IT
This product does NOT include a full version of MyItalianLab, despite the description saying that it does. Besides this, good product, only frustrating that I had to spend even more money to buy the missing code.
The book has the topics all mixed up and its hard to follow up on a topic of interest. the class is not easy but i am enjoying learning italian!
