I got this to start introducing the language to my two-and-a-half-year-old, and it serves the purpose well. The book introduces a number of vocabulary words, and the pictures are cute and bright.My son quite likes the book, and asks for it a lot.I will say that it's not ideal for parents who are learning French along with their child: there's a pronunciation guide in the back, but it's only so-so and a bit of a pain to turn to. My own French is also so-so, so I don't have too much trouble reading this to my son, but it would be a pain if I had to turn to the back more than once per page.I think this is a good book either to supplement a classroom, audio, or DVD language-learning program, or for a French-speaking parent to use with his/her child. Used alone, it's not quite enough to be helpful.
I am French and I have been looking for a book to teach our daughter basic french. Yes, I could do it with any book and just translate it, but it would just not be quite as nice. This book covers everything and anything and we have lots of fun reading together,
This book is exactly what I was hoping for. I got it for my 5 year old because I wanted to introduce him to French, but I didnt want him to get confused on English spelling. Having the 2 languages side by side helps him to keep it straight, and the bright pictures are clear and easy to understand. The vocabulary included are all the basic words kids always ask - numbers, body parts, rooms, food, etc.
I want to raise my infant to speak both english and french so this is a wonderful book to help push us in that direction. The pages are colorful with cute pictures and labels in both English and French to help him understand as well as keep his attention as he gets older. My husband even finds this book helpful as he does not speak French but would like to learn (it is my second language). There are numbers, colors, and shapes. There are also pages with words based on the themes of clothes, body parts, food, the bedroom, the kitchen, the bathroom, the backyard, the park, school, the beach, animals, etc... I also ordered the French version of The Cat in the Hat (Le Chat au Chapeau). Ce livre est tres bon!
Very good book.. believe or not I use it to teach French to my wife who in turn teaches it to our children as I am often out during the day.She loves it and learns quite fast. My soon also like it as the images are big enough to catch his attention...
This book is more like a picture dictionary. It has pictures (clip art style) and then the word in english and french underneath the picture. It covers weather, colors, people, and objects a child would use and know. I just wished it had've had a vewry short story or something like that in french at the end. Otherwise this is great. (Numbers 1-20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100)
I purchased this book for myself a 30 something or nother adult, LOL. Anywho, I learned french in school and this was a great quick brush up for me. Once I am finished with it, I will pass it on to the little ones in the family.
This is a good book for small children, it has very basic words like colors, numbers, ect.My 4 year old daughter loves reading this book and was thrilled to start in, the pictures are bright and recognizable, it isn't a full dictionary, but it suffices for a child whom is just starting to learn a new language or an adult who wants to know a few basic words.
