There is a lot of good information in the book, there are just not enough examples. I like to learn by actually seeing the sample journal entries. In my opinion, there weren't nearly enough of them. I would not have purchased this book except that it was required for my accounting class.
The book was as good as expected. It takes time and effort to work through the exercises. A lot of the problems at the end of each chapter were hard to figure out because there are just not enough examples to guide you. In general, the book is a good source of reference when you work with either governmental or non-for-profit accounting.
Being in the last year of my accounting degree I've read plenty of textbook and this one is by far the worst I've had to use.Core Concepts contains plenty of information but it is hard to find what you are looking for. Unlike most accounting textbook the text is in small print and the headers don't help direct you to the information your looking for like other accounting books. Its extremely frustrating the amount of time spent looking for information I read the day before when doing homework.
It's not the most interesting book in the world (mainly due to the topic), but it presented the material well enough to give the reader a solid understanding of the subject matter. The book is priced reasonably compared to many other textbooks.
This book is very indepth and not for someone that is not detail oriented and doesn't already have a strong knowledge of accounting transactions. Also the text covers more about government accounting than Not-For-Profit.
By far the worst accounting book that I've had to use for class. Not enough examples and the wording isn't always the best in some areas.
