I graduated from University of Maryland, and then from Physical Therapy school at UMD Baltimore, and after 7 years of post secondary education I've never had a textbook that has made me as frustrated as this book. I'm working toward an MBA/MHA and the professors are having us use this book. I hate it. It's poorly organized, provides poor explanations, and has very few charts and tables for learning the actual numbers behind all of the concepts (the charts and tables that are provided are in black and white). Even our professors (some of who have met Gapenski before) say they don't like the book, and that there are many errors in it. I know there are plenty of errors, especially in their math, because they've cost me lots of extra time while working through exercises. I feel like I could have learned twice as much from a textbook that was better organized, had less errors, and included supporting numerical charts and tables.I would never wish is book on anyone again, or even think or recommending it. If your professor wants to use it, beg him, plead with him or her not to use it

This was purchased for my Healthcare Finance class for my MBA however it was so relevant to my Health Insurance Job that I have kept the book and ordered a few more for my workers. It has wonderful insight into behind the scenes of finance and what the Healthcare side of business is dealing with.

Another great book by Dr. Gapenski. I have the pleasure of having him for Finance, so perhaps I'm biased. He has written so many books on Finance, so there is one out there that meets most anyone's expectations.

In the class half of the assignments we couldn't even use this book for because there were no examples to match what we had to do. More of the assignments were based on scenario's and excel spreadsheets and websites the professor sent to us. Very hard to understand as well. Especially if you never had introduction to financing.

I am currently enrolled in a class that used this textbook as its main source and I cannot say enough about well written it is. Having struggled through many a textbook during my academic career, reading a book this well written is a breath of fresh air. The concepts covered are crucial for any manager who wants to get into healthcare.

This text book is horrible. I'm very sorry if you are compelled to use it. It is FAR from and introduction text. There are errors in the book, the language and basis of the text assume that the user has knowledge and abilities in statistics, and mathematics, and business management. The language used is often interchanged with other terminology and the assumption that the user understands this and why it is done....very opaque, nothing is clear, horrible 'explanations' of concepts and does not contribute to student learning. Even my prof said it sucked and was sorry to have used it as the main text for my beginning class....what a waste!

This book was required for one of my classes and I have to say that it confused me even more. It did provide examples. However, it lacked tremendously in providing detailed explanations on how to solve problems. The professor choose to give us additional helpful hints on how to answer questions. I was so grateful, because I didn't get ANY help with the use of this book. I hope you have more luck than I did...I passed the class though :)

I found Gapenski's 'Healthcare Finance' to be a very good textbook for those who need an introduction to healthcare finance topics. The book covers both managerial and financial accounting and has relatively good explanations about different topics within the individual chapters. One criticism I have is that there is no way to know the answers to the questions in the back of each chapter. Now I know that this book is prepared for undergraduates or graduate students, but as a mid-career graduate student, I just wanted to learn the material and needed answers to the questions to help me get through the concepts. I could find answers nowhere. I realize that instructors have answer books, but I think there should be a way to get the answers if you are using this book to learn, not just to pass a class. All in all, this one is a good book and I would recommend it.
