I just asked my son to recommend a book on human origins for a friend. I asked him which book helped him understand where we came from the most. He said - this book. We borrow it from our library pretty much every time we go and it's available. He loves this book.It doesn't matter what you are interested in - fashion, planes, buildings, forts, the cosmic universe - this has it all. And the illustrations are wonderful and the explanations are too. My son says he has learned more from this book than any other book he has read (he's 9 at the moment). And he's still learning from it. Wonderful book.
How can you pack pretty near everything about history into one small book, and make every page utterly fascinating? Hard to do, but this accomplishes it masterfully. Sure, nothing is spelled out in detail, but every word and every detail of every picture is so carefully chosen and accomplished that you can just see time moving before your eyes. WAY better than a movie or app because you can interact with it in the way that one can only interact with books.
