What the author says is true--stop talking about yourself; the audience doesn't really care about you--they care about their own problems. That admonition might be the single most important presentation tip in this excellent little book. It's also true, as the author states, "90% of Presentations are unbearable." For techies, I think the figure might be more like 95%. I've gotten to the point that I will leave a presentation after 1 minute if the presenter is clueless. I must admit we "techies" are the worst. I once saw a presentation at a conference by the group's president. Partway through the presentation, the power point slide said, "ENTER TITLE HERE." In other words, he had never once reviewed the presentation! (For a techie to be in the 90th percentile of great presenters, he just needs to have titles on all his slides.)The author really knows he is talking about. I have made a special study of presentation techniques, and I have come to many of the same conclusions as the author. The good news is, the problems really aren't that hard to fix. The bad news is, the presenters don't know that anything NEEDS to be fixed. Many presenters seem to have a real "blind spot" when it comes to talking in front of groups. I've noticed that many smart people try to cram a ton of text on powerpoint slides--as though that would impress the audience. Here are some other key points of presentation wisdom:♦ Get just one strong idea for your talk. I've found that to be true for many types of presentations, even sermons! My wife and I play this little game. After we've heard a talk, we ask ourselves, "What was the main theme of the talk?
