Every so often you come across a children's book that simply makes you feel good when you read it as an adult while at the same time will be of fascination to the wee ones you read it with. This is normally the results when you have an author and an artist who are obviously on the same page and their two artistic disciplines mesh perfectly. And so we have one of those charming works between the covers of "Ten Tiny Toes," written by Todd Tarpley and which has been illustrated by Marc Brown.I have to admit that other than the possibilities of puppies, babies are just simply one of the cutest little creatures we have around. And I must admit that baby toes are rather special. Having children and grand children I am quite familiar with both babies and their toes. This book's subject is baby toes. It is written in rhyme and reminds me more of a nursery rhyme than anything else. Now least you think that you have a book of nothing but toes think again. You begin to realize that this book is more about love than anything else, one you get into it. The book begins with:"Into the worldcame ten tiny toes,a hundred times sweeterthan one could suppose."We travel though the life of a young baby, new activities, new adventures, learning, learning and learning.And the child grows older but he and she still has his or her toes!"And as they got oldertheir confidence grew.They learned to do thingsthat small toes couldn't do."The ending...ah, full cycle, and babies and their toes continue...as it should be.The writing in this one is quite good and due to the rhythm of the rhyme it is absolutely captivating.
