We have a lot of Elmo things around the house, including books. We also have several alphabet books since my 20-month-old has learned his letters, numbers and colors with many well-organized and beautifully illustrated books we've bought on . Because of this, I thought this book would be ideal. I was really disappointed when it came. For this level of book, it had too much text and each letter was just part of the text but not featured in the illustration! I had to take a marker and go through the book and add the letter as a feature of the illustration, myself. It still didn't help. My toddler grandson, who loves Elmo, is not fond of this book at all, although he loves his other ABC books (see Charley Harper's ABC's in particular.)
This is a soft cover book only good for pictures of Elmo. It does not have the letters displayed in bold fonts for children to learn. The cover is very misleading.
My 2-year-old son is a huge fan of Sesame Street so we own quite a few of their books and toys. This one definitely isn't our favorite Sesame or alphabet book. It's quite a wordy book for being a small board book (not exactly the target age, in my opinion), and some of the words chosen to represent each letter are difficult for a toddler. For example, "upside" down is used for the letter U, which is not nearly as easy to label as, say, an umbrella. My son still likes to look at the pictures occasionally, but even those aren't as good as the more colorful and fun illustrations from other Sesame Street books (such as 1,2,3 Count With Me). Overall, this book is just OK. Your Sesame Street fan will probably still enjoy it, but there are better options out there.
Another hit with my 23 month old great grandson. He loves Sesame Street, with Elmo being his favorite character. I love these board books. I know they will hold up so they can be read to future great grandchildren.
My 14 month old daughter loves this book! The only thing that I personally didn't like was the end.. Elmo is looking for Zoe which confuses me making me think I need to buy another book. Other than that this book is fun to read!
its not a basic ABC book for infant/toddler age. there are a lot of words in it, it is more for a child who has mastered their ABCs and are ready to move onto expanding their vocabulary. my toddler does like elmo though so she enjoys looking at the pictures.
I couldn't disagree with the poor rating reviews more. This book (nor is any) meant to be a stand alone book. And it's less than 4 bucks. I would imagine this book would be READ TO a preschooler and that it would be up to the one doing the reading to follow up and commentate as they went along. I found the book to be delightful, mostly because it was NOT done in the run-of-the-mill manner. For those who were somewhat disappointed, well, we will merely agree to disagree. I purchased this book for my granddaughter because my g-daughter is one of the thousands and thousands of toddlers who LOVES Elmo. I purchased this book specifically with her in mind, and it certainly met our expectations.P.S. I found the quality of the pages to be completely in line with a four dollar book.
This book is definitely cute and there's nothing majorly wrong with it. I purchased this for my 14 month old son. The problem, I guess that's what I'll call it, is that some of this things depicted as examples of words that start with such and such letter, are too abstract for kids under probably 3....maybe older . For instance, the letter "I" uses Imagination as the example word. I just don't know why they wouldn't have used a more easily illustrated and understood word such as "ice cream" even "igloo". They also use "love" for "L" which is nice, but again it's a bit abstract for a really small child. Other than that, the pictures are brightly colored and of course, there's Elmo. Not my favorite ABC book, but hardly awful. Would be appropriate for a child over 2 1/2 in my opinion.
