The First Phone Call From Heaven Low Price CD: A Novel
ebooks Download

One autumn day, the phones in Coldwater, Michigan, begin ringing. The people calling are all departed loved ones. They say they are calling from heaven. On that same day, Sully Harding is released from prison for a crime he may not have committed. During his incarceration, his wife passed away. He returns to Coldwater a brokenhearted man, hoping to quietly rebuild his life with his young son. Instead, he finds his hometown gripped by miracle fever. As the mysterious phone calls increase, outsiders flock from around the world in hopes of sharing the blessing. When his son begins to carry a toy phone awaiting a call from his mother, Sully has had enough. He sets out to prove that the Coldwater phenomenon is a hoax. But is it? Or could this be the world's greatest miracle? A heart-stopping mystery and a meditation on the power of connecting with a loved one you cannot see, this is Mitch Albom's most thrilling and magical novel yet.

What surprised me most was that Albom's story not only moved me--as all of his work does--but compelled me like a mystery story. Twists and turns in this one! I have so much admiration for Mitch Albom.

I enjoyed this book on Audible. The author's voice was quite easy to listen to and I found this book easy to listen to for hours.I quite enjoyed this book and I really liked the tidbits on Alexander Graham Bell that added to the story. I am not religious but I do believe in God. I think I heard this book mentioned on Dr Phil which peaked my interest to read it. This is the first book I read by Mitch Albom but will not be my last!

The idea behind the story is certainly creative, and hasn't been done before, so that holds your interest. However, those who appreciate character development, subtle and believable plot turns, and non-preachiness will be disappointed in this story. Ever character in the story seems to be a façade and unidimensional, including the central figure, Sullivan, a disgraced Navy flyer. The author attempts to insert moralizing into this story, which I don't need as an adult. I don't mind being inspired, but the book overs no inspiration. I have really liked three other books by Albom, but this one really falls short. One thing that bothered me personally was one of the character's stories in the book. Albom imposes deep seated guilt upon one of the characters because he finally fired a long time employee who had chronic addictive disease and was rarely at work, did poor work, and who stayed hgh on the job, to the point of falling off a rough and huring himself. Anyway, Albom places this man in the wrong, who had tried to help the addicted employee for years, without so much as a word of thanks from the addicted employee. The employee calls him after the employee dies, and harangues him for being so unfair (Albom clearly speaking through this man) The upshot is that the employer expiates his guild by hiring his son and then putting him through college. Actually, this employer should have fired this man long before he did, and maybe he would have gotten the help he needed, then he could have lived to put his own son through college. Anyway, that just gives you one idea of the moralizing and melodrama that takes place in the book.It was a decent story, and that is the only thing that held my attention, as well as the backstory of Alexander G. Bell, and his invention ofthe telephone. So, I am sorry to have to give this book and CD a 3 start review, but that is my take.

I love Mitch Albom's books, though I purchased this as a CD because I send alot of time in my car. I love the concept of this story and I was very happy with the ending, A good read for Mitch Albom's fans.
