Buy it! Its marvelous. As a parent, I don't like to take the usual route, and stick in a DVD, then simply allow my children to "veg-out." I just purchased the "Father Gilbert Mysteries" for "drive time" this summer. My children are ages 12, 9, and 9. Some episodes are a wee bit frightening, but as a parent, I must be willing to tackle the material included; sooner, rather than later. One episode is recommended for young adults and above (not suitable for younger children) - but I simply discussed the material with my children and they understood what I explained to them. My kids love figuring out 'who did it'. The voices on this particular Focus on The Family Radio Drama production are superb. The mysteries are truly "mysterious." Some are serious, some are humorous, and some deal with the spiritual world - appropriately. My family and I have completely enjoyed the "Father Gilbert Mysteries". I highly recommend The Father Gilbert Mysteries for families with pre-teens, teens, and young adults. I appreciate Focus On The Family for giving families "clean" listening material without compromising a spirit of excellence. BUY THIS SERIES - you won't regret it. Our only regret - we wish there were more Father Gilbert Mysteries to purchase and listen to on our casual jaunts about town! Five stars for Father Gilbert! Five stars for Focus On The Family Radio Drama!!!
My wife asked for this set for Christmas. She really enjoys it and has always liked mysteries. She is a conservative person who does not like violent, vulgar or sensual stuff in her entertainment. She enjoys old episodes of Murder She Wrote, Poirot, Quincy, etc. So if you like that kind of thing you will really like this. I haven't listened to it but I we have children and she won't let them listen to all the episodes. Some of them are too intense for them.
These are great stories and Radio Theatre does an amazing job on this and all their other offerings. I was pleasantly surprised to find this set came in a nicer storage box than my previous one. If you like audio books, Radio Theatre is miles above ones that are only read by one or two actors; these have sound effects, music, the whole nine yards.
I do love these Father Gilbert stories. I am a pizza delivery driver and so I am in my car a lot. I put one of these in and they keep my mind active and attentive as I listen, preventing me from falling asleep late at night.Great stories, and wish there were more of them.
We listened to this 10-CD audio series while making a cross-country trip. The series kept our 10-year-old intrigued and engaged, but it is probably more appropriate for a preteen or teen. However, I enjoyed it as well. The stories are all very different from one another. The characters are well-developed and provided ample material for story after story. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of them. The stories are enjoyable on multiple levels. Some are suspenseful mysteries. Others provide more drama than suspense.We've listened to the stories more than once, and we are looking forward to the next time we get to listen to them again.
ALways pleased with selection of old mysteries. This arrived WELL before the stated delivery date. Only place I order from is for so many items ! It has about five discs . All were in perfect shape ! If you like good mysteries , this is one set to purchase !
I loved this Edition. I listened to it about 3 or 4 times. It end in a clift-hanger. Are there further programs following the last one called In Memorium. Did Father Gilbert return to his parish? So many unanswered questions. If there are further Father Gilbert Mysteries, please let me know. Each story leaves you on the edge of your seat. Each participant in these programs were absolutely terrific.
These are awesome stories they have really made me realize more than ever before that we are in a battle and that God is all powerful.
