Nesbit. A prolific and successful writer of several genres, Nesbit is most remembered as one of the first modern authors of children's literature; she is credited with addressing real-world issues in her writings, helping to move children's literature beyond the realms of fantasy and folklore. In addition to several very successful children's works, Nesbit wrote horror stories and is well-known for her support for Socialism. She and her husband were among the founders of the Fabian Society in 1884.

When searching for a child friendly book of stories based on William Shakespere's works I came across this little gem. The book is authored by Edith Nesbit, best known for her books "The Railway Children, Five Children and It and The Enchanted Castle." Edith has done a beautiful job of translating Shakespere's works into stories which will engage children in the classic works such as "A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear." This is a delightful way to introduce your children to the world of William Shakespere.
My eight year old and I like this one better than Lamb's version. It is easier for her to understand because it is written in a more modern English style.
I read this book out loud to my daughter. Many of the plays were ones I was not familiar with, so I learned a thing or two myself. The formatting for the Kindle was great and I found the book itself quite charming.
"Beautiful stories from Shakespeare" is really beautiful, and I can understand it perfectly. I especially loved the play "much ado about nothing"
Short and sweet, keeps some of the traditional language.
This is the most beautiful essay on love..written years ago...and easy to "consume"...wonderful little book!!
A good adaptation of Shakespeare for my 9 year old. We didn't read them all but those we read she liked.
