This book is okay for everyday objects, dress, ball, tricycle, but not for learning colors. The name of the objects as well as the color are listed instead of focusing on the name of the color being addressed. Also some of the colors were not very well defined, for example, pink was so dark it looked almost red and the red shoes looked pink, the shade of gray used was too dark, nearly black, and too many of the objects had more than one color (ball was blue and white, coat was black and white) instead of being a solid color to go with the color that page was focusing on.
My 16 month-old son loves flipping through the brightly colored pages of these board books. We have two other Bright Baby books and they all have beautiful images with big bold words for each item on the page. They are easy for him to turn with his little fingers and he likes looking at and touching all of the pictures.
I like the priddy books, especially the Animals version. I recommend that one. This colors book is kind of random and not that great at showing colors. For example, blue shows blueberries, that appear black and a checkered ball, which is blue and white. For red, they show an apple that is both red and green. You get the idea. This book could have been better.
I got this along with the other 2 bright baby books I saw on here (colors and first words) for my book loving 18 month old. he absolutely LOVES them! we have other books similar, but they all have several items per page and he seems to really love that each page is only one thing. He focuses right on it and says all the words he knows. :)
Great first book for babies! Nice firm (board) pages, a single image and single word on each page. I was surprised how quickly my 9 month grandson latched onto the book and tried his best to turn the pages. It's very exciting to me to see him interested in books at so young an age and I hope this early experience will help to plant a seed of curiosity that will last his whole life.
This book is sturdy, durable, visually interesting, well-designed and a great place to launch an infant's interest in books, photos and naming the real-life images he/she sees every day. Bright Baby Colors is part of a wonderful series of board books which includes Bright Baby Animals and Bright Baby First Words (both of which I also highly recommend). Rather than confusing an infant's eyes with an array of images all at once, the nice thing about these books is that they are laid out very simplistically with one photograph and word per page on a solid-colored background. No clutter and no distractions. For the infant who is just starting to point at everything in the world and seek "identification tags", this entire series is the perfect first set of books.Ever since he was an infant, my son has kept coming back to these books. I think it is because they can be easily adapted to teach a variety of concepts and they evolve to meet his constantly changing points of interest. I agree with the previous reviewer that a few of the color choices are not as well depicted as they could be. (E.g., gray is depicted as so dark that it is almost black, and pink is shown in such a dark shade that it is almost red.) However, this is a minor point, and I still give this book five stars for the simple visual images it provides, the focused learning it encourages, and the variety of ways in which it can be used to teach not just colors, but also other words and concepts. With its great photography of everyday, real-life, 'round-the-house images set against simple, solid backgrounds, this book is definitely a solid choice with which to start your child's home library!
These books are wonderufl. We originally got a free copy of the bright baby "animals" book at our pediatrician. After seeing how much our baby loved it (8 months old), I wanted another one. She loves the bright colors and the pages are thick enough that she can get her little fingers between them to turn the pages. For about $4 a book, I plan on buying more of these books in the future. They are enjoyable and educational.
I LOVE these books for my 17 month old. Wish I would have gotten them sooner. He loves to look at all the pictures and identify (or try to identify) what he sees. I love that it's only 1 image per page, unlike other books that can get overwhelming with a ton of items on 1 page.
