I won't review the Patrick O'Brien book "The Wine-Dark Sea", but will comment on the Audio CD.First, it's unabridged. Hooray! Abridged CDs always cut out the interesting character development and leave us with the action unexplained.Second, the reader has a very distinctive, perhaps old-fashioned, tone and accent, and at first I was turned off. Oh, am I going to spend 12 hours listening to this? But, after a while I began to realize that his voice matches quite well the tone and accent of the written novel. Good work! For everyone who has been disappointed on seeing a period piece film where the actors look and sound like contemporary hollywood pop-stars, this CD does not play down to our comfort level, but brings us nicely into the period.
