What I love most about this book is how it captured the attention of all three of my children (ages 1, 3, and 5). They loved moving the sliders to match the picture underneath. The sentences are simple and they enjoyed guessing the animals by the clues. My 5 year old is starting to read and sound out words. Once the sliders are in their proper place you can read the name of the animal. Although they were able to guess by the clues, she still enjoyed sounding out the names. The illustrations are adorable and simple enough for us to practice drawing the animals by looking at the pictures. It's a high quality book that will last and worth the $$!
Wee Gallery Slide & Play Books. Illustrations by Surya Sajnani. Published by Quarto. These are sturdy, high quality board books appropriate for ages 18 months to 4 years old. The simple text paired with Sajnani's endearing, black and white illustrations are perfect for tiny readers. Each page offers three hints about the animal and then poses the question "Who am I?" Next to that you'll find a great interactive, sliding puzzle. Once the puzzle is solved you'll see the full illustration of the animal, along with its name. The puzzles are fun and slide with ease for little fingers. I'd consider these books perfect for any toddler. Fun to read in the lap of a loved one. But also entertaining to play with alone (think car rides, restaurants, etc.) Would definitely recommend these to parents of little ones.
With black and white illustrations and moving parts....this book is amazing for development. I agree with one of the other reviews that it works for many ages (infant-preschool) It's a book that will grow with a child ang one that an older child would be fine listening to if you are reading to a couple ages. The moving parts are simple but a healthy challenge for the little ones. Heavy duty pages. Great gift!
