Everything by Jim Weiss is outstanding, but this tape stands out as one of his best. Even though we have listened to it many times, the kids and I enjoy it every time. We all have favorite stories and characters. After we first got the tape, the kids went off on a fairly long binge of acting out the King Arthur stories.Jim Weiss has the perfect reading manner. His voice is clear, his pacing is superb, his adaptations are very good. We have had a carload of antsy kids for an hour car ride and they are all silent and attentive for the entire tape. We have been known to sit in the car for 5 minutes after we have arrived to hear the end of a story (even ones we've heard before).I recommend this tape and any tape by Jim Weiss without any qualifications. They are superb for kids and very good for adults. You will not be disappointed.
This CD is just terrific, as the sole other review says here. Both my children, a son 8 and a daughter 6, love this CD, and I have to admit that I really enjoy it too.The story is terrific, the productions first rate, and the actual telling of the tale could not be better. If your children like listening to stories, get this CD.
This audio cassette version of Arthur and His Knights was really interesting. This book was about King Arthur and his adventures as a boy up until his death. Mr. Weiss also told about several of Arthur's knights of the round table, including the great Lancelot. I enjoyed listening to this book because of the narrator's expressive tones of voice which added to the climactic points in the story. All in all, it was a great listening experience.
I'm a Devotee of Susan Wise Bauer and this was one of the many wonderful choices she recommends in her book The Well Trained Mind. I've read the Story Of The World by Bauer to my kindergartner and she has a huge thirst for history. I would encourage parents of young children not to underestimate the things that they can understand and remember. I purchased several of these Jim Weiss audiobooks and have been very pleased. Be bold! Pass up the potato chip brain food that is Dora the Explorer and introduce your small children to history and science and art and math. You will be amazed and delighted by the pleasure they find in it when you make it regularly available to them.
My son started to listening to this CD when he was about 4 years old. Jim Weiss offers a fun retelling of the Arthur story in way that is engaging and entertaining for young listeners. He uses various sound effects and backgound noised to enhance the experience and encourage young imaginations to engage with the story. Although, a story on tape can never replace a parent reading this is a great tool to keep your kids entertained in the car or away from the TV if you need a little time to do the dishes. We listen to this at least once a week if not more. Great purchase.
My three and seven-year-old daughters beg to listen to this when we are in the car. The stories are rich, engaging, and promote positive values. My girls' creative play has been inspired in new directions by the King Arthur stories. They also have expressed strong interest in listening to the full length books of King Arthur stories read aloud to them, somthing I couldn't get them to sit still for before listening to the Jim Weiss recording. I highly recommend this recording.
I didn't listen to this, but my family did and they enjoyed it very much...Just fine for children 7+ depending on how interested they may be in this type of material. Not inappropriate in what I could tell.
I will always love the story of King Author, and this is so much more than that! My son LOVES knights and he really likes this as well! My only critique is that there is NO background music for any dramatic effect. Makes it a little one note, but other than that it was fantastic!
