I'm a French teacher at a low-budget charter HS and I didn't want to spend >$400 on support material. Well it turns out that if you use the DFN textbook (bleu version at least), you can just get this very affordable CD and with an Internet connection you will get access to a number of videos for the opening dialogues and a LOT of audio for review exercises and overall intonation sections. They were a bit cheap on putting together videos for most lessons though, but it will make a huge difference for me in terms of bringing more dynamism to my classroom. I'm sure the students will be relieved to hear other voices than mine reading those dialogues! And I could see how even hearing the audio would be a huge help for a learner on his/her own.They have some animations too but the technology is a bit weak so you can't really pause and continue (it's either on PLAY or STOP) but I don't mind that too much.Also, I didn't think having the book on a CD would really matter, but if you can use a projector all the time you can make sure everybody is on the same page by having it on the wall for everybody to see.I am so thrilled with this. I can't wait to start using it in my classroom and see how much of a difference it makes vs. what I was doing so far (just doing off of the book).
This is in addition to my previous review. One of the bonuses I discovered on this CD is a link to Classzone.com, which provides flash cards with pronunciation, and tests/reviews on 3 levels of each unit. VERY HELPFUL, and this link alone is worth way more than the price of the CD. I did not discover that this even existed until 2 months after I began teaching my granddaughter French.
What doesn't weigh 8 pounds, but still includes everything I need to help my kid with his French? Not my favorite French textbook, but I appreciate the convenient format.
