I like my son to experience the books prior to watching movies. Audiobooks are great for kids to listen too! He enjoyed this very much! Have the entire series on Audiobook. Movie was not a big deal when he watched it because he already knew the story! Radio casts are lost arts of a time gone by!!!!
Excellent adaptation of the films. I remember listening to this when it was first broadcast on the radio. It was great to listen to it on a recent 10 hour trip home. It made the time go by. Even my wife who is not a Star Wars fan enjoyed it. Definitely buy this if you are a Star Wars fan. It shows what a great story these movies were even without all of the visual effects.
Brian Daley's radio script for ESB is excellent! Wish NPR would do more of these radio drama remakes of quality films! Extra material of Han saving Luke in the freezing climate of Hoth is much appreciated. Great for people who love radio theater of the mind.
I was initially disappointed that Empire only comprised five discs worth of material, but after listening to it, I was more satisfied with these five than A New Hope's seven.The extra scenes really stand out this time - my favorites were the space battle intro and the scene with Han & Luke recovering in Han's cold weather shelter on Hoth. They're interesting and add to the experience, much more than those in A New Hope. Nor do they detract from the pacing.Having Billy Dee Williams on board helped it feel more authentic, especially since he is usually opposite Anne Sachs, who is perfect as Leia. Brock Peters as Vader I may just be used to at this point, but Perry King turned in a better performance as Han this time around.My only gripes are John Lithgow's Yoda voice, and Han coming off as kind of a scumbag with Leia - I lost count of how many times she told Han to let go of her!
I bought this years ago on sale in a local bookstore because I had enjoyed the NPR Star Wars series on local public radio in college. I have all three now on CD or cassette tape and have them loaded on my iTunes at work so I can get surprised by some Star Wars adventure. I have listened to this more than I have watched the movie.
Starting with the ice world of Hoth to Dagobah to Cloud City on Bespin, the journey of learning starts for Luke Skywalker. The book contains so much detail and description you miss in the movie. A must have for any Star Wars fan!
