First of all, in full disclosure, I did not read the entire book. I was just checking it out to see if it was good material for the intended recipient.Second of all, this is clearly a book for Christian dads and it is anything but secular. Not only are there references to religious figures everywhere and frequent Bible quotes/references, but one of the "52 Things" is actually straight up about reading the Bible with your daughter on a daily basis. Another is about praying in her room. If that's your cup of tea, go for it. If it's not, you have been forewarned. The only real problem I saw with this aspect was that he uses religion as a solution to some of the problems that parents face. For those who do not follow a religion, the issues are left completely unresolved.Beyond the overwhelming religious tone, I still did not think this book was terribly useful, although the topic is important. I'm not sure what the author does for a living or why he is qualified to write about this topic other than having raised one daughter, but I did not find this to be hugely helpful. A lot of the "52 Things" that I read were not specific to the dad-daughter relationship (they were just general parenting advice), and some that were I found, as a daughter, to be a bit off-base. Moreover, looking at the book from the point of view of the single dad that I had bought the book for, many of the "Things" weren't really feasible. Of course, it is up to the reader to apply each message to his own life and to each daughter individually, but the book seemed very narrow in it's mindset of what a father is.
