The Modern Standard Arabic Language Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), also known as Standard Arabic or Literary Arabic, is the variety of Arabic used in writing and in formal speech. MSA is spoken by an estimated 300 million people world-wide. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Modern Standard Arabic is the official language of all Arab countries, and is the only form of Arabic taught in schools at all levels. Because of this, MSA is the lingua franca of all educated Arabic-speakers, regardless of nationality or spoken native dialect. It is used in the news, schools, official documents, and courts of law. MSA bears great resemblance to Classical Arabic; the language of ancient poetry and the Qu'ran. The Arabic alphabet contains 28 basic letters and is read from right to left. This is a very well done introduction to conversational Arabic. The pattern of repetition and method of breaking down words has made it possible to gain rapid familiarity with a useful basic vocabulary. I have used Pimsleur before with another language and certainly will again.
I'm an interpreter (Spanish, Hebrew, English) and I've wanted to study more languages. First I bought Pimsleur French - loved it. Now Arabic, same thing. It is just GOOD. You learn, you talk. It's perfect.
This is the second pimsleur language set I have used, first being french and I have loved them both. They know what they are doing when it comes to helping you move language into your long term memory. If you have a commute to work these easy to follow 30 min dialogs are great for building vocabulary. I can't wait to start the next set.
I love pimsleur products. This one focuses on repetition and building upon previously introduced vocabulary. This is perfect for people who have no prior knowledge of the language. My only suggestion is to review the arabic alphabet first,familiarize yourself with the sounds before starting the videos. I have learned so much, in just a short amount of time. I would truly recommend this to anyone who is serious about learning arabic.
The pattern sentences are spoken clearly so they're easy to listen to. There's enough time to hear and repeat new words and to form the answers to the questions. I like the pace at which the new words and phrases are repeated as reminders. It helps me remember the new words and phrases thus is very encouraging.
Excellent introduction to Arabic. Easy to follow and the method seems to really "cement" what you are learning into your brain! We bought a few other methods that didn't seem to really help.
Came lightning fast! Pimsleurs approach to teaching languages is very easy to digest and fun. I plan on completing this module and ordering more. Thanks!
