This is a child-centered, fun, sweet story, so respectful of children's imaginations. Faux Paw is a pun for the French term, faux pas. A faux pas is socially awkward behavior. So, the title is very clever for the boy who wants to grow up to be a bear, which would not be a widely accepted idea in society. That idea is seen as silly, until a new teacher arrives in class (well, I can't give a spoiler). This is a very good story for discussing the difference between reality and fantasy, as young children move so easily between the two with the bat of an eye. It is a fun story and will make perfect sense to the children! Very fun! And, children will learn a French term used everywhere.

I love love love this story! It is a tale of love and a son/mother endearment. We've all had someone in our lives tell us we couldn't do something that we wanted to. Lucky Waldon has a mother who tells him he can be anything he wants to be! Will he really get to 'be a bear?' Read the story and find out![...] Thank you and God Bless!

What do you want to be when you grow up?Janice wants to be a doctor.Bradley wants to be a fireman.Walden wants to be a bear.Yes, that is correct, a bear."That's impossible," says his teacher, Mrs. Hunter. "Human children grow up to be human adults, not animals!"But the teacher doesn't realize that Walden has a mama at home who believes in him and tells him he can be anything he wants to be and then goes about helping him achieve his dream.CUTE. CUTE. BOOK!My FAVORITE SO FAR!PERFECT FOR ANYONE ages 2 to 102!If you only get one Julia Dweck book make it this one...But I promise as soon as you start reading her books you are going to want all of them!As always Julia adds fascination bear facts at the end and a fun animal 'track match' puzzle.

Walden Bear is a boy who wants to grow up to be a bear. When his teacher (ironically named Mrs. Hunter) tells him he can't, he becomes even more determined to succeed. This is another marvelous offering from Julia Dweck. This time there is no rhyming tale, just simple yet elegant prose, bringing us the fantastic message that children can grow up to be whatever they want. The book is beautifully illustrated by Walter Carzon, whose drawings make the characters come alive. Comes complete with bear facts and a fun activity.Remember, you can be whoever or whatever you want to be.I received this book for the purpose of providing an honest review.

Julia Dweck has written another fabulous story. In Faux Paw, a young boy is encouraged by his mother to be just what he wants to be...even if that's a bear. :) This is a great story about being who you are. I love that all the kids get involved as well as the mom. There are fun bear activities at the end of the book, and lots of bear fun throughout the story. I loved reading this with my daughters!I received an electronic copy of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.

This is the story of Walden Bear....a little boy who when presented with the question of what he wants to be when he grows up, answered simply....a BEAR. Unusual? Certainly. Impossible? No...though his teacher would have him believe otherwise. Push comes to shove, Walden's mother gets involved (REALLY involved) and when all is said and done, suffice it to say that Mrs. Hunter is out...but Mrs. Lions is in!The real glory behind this amazing story besides the obvious and the illustrations is the message. Ms. Dweck is notorious for including something for kiddos (well, and readers in general) to take away from the read besides entertainment value and in this case it's a BIG one...you can be ANYTHING you want to be! All it takes is dedication, heart, perseverance and determination, and you can achieve any goal you set and surmount any obstacle placed before you. Of course, it never hurts to have "mama Bear" in your corner as well, but you, yourself and I are the ones that will get the job done.In the end, it's an adora-BEAR read that is PAW-sitively wonderful in both story and visual content, THIS...this is one for you. Recommended for little ones just discovering the world as well as those up and coming in number still finding themselves. It's a wonderful read with much to enjoy and filled with imagination to boot. Oh...and one more thing. At story's end, there are also some playful add in's and edutainment pages for further learning opportunities. Talk about a great combination. I can BEAR-ly contain myself. ^_^*review copy received in exchange for my honest review...full post can be seen on my site*

Walden Bear wants nothing more than to be a bear when he grows up. His mum encourages Walden that he can be whatever he wants to be, so much so that she even makes him a Faux bear suit. Like every little kid who simply must wear that suit everywhere, Walden wears his suit to school.Walden's teacher Mrs Hunter isn't as supportive and she tells Walden that he simply cannot be a bear. Especially since all the other students have much greater aspirations like being Doctors and Fireman etc, but Walden is no perturbed. He will do anything to prove he can be a bear, like hibernating during recess and eating foods like a bear. He is so convincing that some of the other kids decide they want to be animals, too.Well, this gets Walden in a world of trouble and Mrs Hunter marches him to the office. Walden thinks he is about to face the wrath of his mother, but instead, she does something that proves just how much she loves and supports her son in his quest to be whatever he wants to be in the world.I am not going to tell you what she does, you will just have to read the book. I will say that Walden and his class mates do end up with a teacher who encourages them to be whoever they want to be, whatever that may be.We enjoyed this delightful book by Julia Dweck, with a sweet message about being true to yourself, and a timely reminder to parents to let their little monsters or monkeys or bears, dream big and be whatever they want to be.NB, A copy was provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review.
