If you love the Stephanie Plum books as much as I do.....DO NOT BUY THIS ON AUDIO BOOKS. The actress that reads the book is terrible! She sounds like 12 year old girl reading her mothers book. I loved these books because they are so Funny. The audio reading acually put me to sleep! I have listened to many audio books and loved them but the person reading the book makes all the difference. Miss Petty is a good actress but misscasted as the narrater of these books.
I love this series. The best part about this series is that it is the first three books in her series. It is a three for the price of one deal. I love the characters and the story line. From Underwear buyer to bounty hunter she is a believable and loveable goofball who is constantly having her cars blown up by bad guys, repossessed by creditors, or stolen by the men she is hunting. It is fast paced and funny. A great read regardless when you can find the time to read it. Love Evanovich and her Stephanie Plum series is my personal favorite. The stories are well written, very colorful and always bring a smile to my face even on the worst of day. I highly recommend them for light reading you don't have to take to seriously. They are my personal escape on those days you just cannot face the world.
Other reviews have done a great job analyzing the content of these delightful little books, but I was introduced to Stephanie Plum on CD during a road trip (that went through Jersey, which made the books that much better). I have to attract attention to Lori Petty's fantastic reading. Her hooker voice made me laugh over and over, and she does a great job of developing distinctive voices for all the other characters as well. The tone is perfect, she's totally clear on every word, and she really does add another level of enjoyment to the experience of listening to these books on CD.
Just started listening and its good because I like the story but I do not like the reader. Its just not fitting and does not make it as enjoyable as plum spooky because the reader on that one was perfect.
As a devoted reader of the Stephanie Plum series, going back and reading the earlier ones was a nice trip in nostalgia.It was interesting to compare the Stephanie of the first novels with the Stephanie in the more recent ones.As always, an interesting, fast-paced and mostly light-hearted read.
If you want the gist of the books these are the way to go considering they are an ABRIDGED copy. The reader Lori Petty does an alright job. unfourtnaly I would recommend the unabridged read by either C.J Critt or Lorelei King they do a supuerb job where Petty is lacking
This series is one of my all time favorites, and I reread her books over & over. What makes this (audio) gift set so tremendous is, it allows you time to entertain you while you just relax & listen or while you are driving a distance - perfect way to enjoy hours of driving or waiting in an airport, etc. Terrific.
This first set of audio books in the series is terrible. Way too abridged But for me, the worst part was the audio. Whoever read these books idea of the older women in the books (the heroines grandmother & the mom of one of her several boyfriends). sound like a Yiddish mama. Neither one of the women in question was Jewish. One was Greek. Both sounded like each other, so you couldn't tell who was who by just listening,Good News ... the remainder of the audio books are read by a competent person.
