PROS:Affordable, heavy emphasis on travel terms, good for reinforcing what you already knowCONS:Advances through terms too quickly. Imagine trying to learn by having someone throw flashcards up at you every 7 seconds and moving on before you are ready to progress...No explanation of grammar (verb endings, masculine vs. feminine)Difficult to digest longer phrases; therefore difficult to move past the early discsOBSERVATIONS:I tend to learn by reading/studying. I don't remember words unless I see them written. This means I am challenged when it comes to listening and communicating verbally; therefore, I bought audio CDs to help me with listening and developing better communication skills. I loaned this set out, so I have now lost the small guides that came with the set. Because the pace of these recordings is so rapid, I cannot keep up with phrases as new words are introduced and am having difficulty retaining new words. At the point where things become too complex, I listen to the track a second, third and fourth time. If I cannot keep up with mimicking what I hear, I resort to just listening and training my ear to adapt to the intonations of the speaker.I just checked out some Pimsleur CDs from the library, and want to switch over to this series for now. Pimsleur was recommended to me by a friend who learned Spanish as an adult. They take more time helping you master pronunciation and spend more time explaning what you are hearing and why things are said a certain way. You listen to a conversation. Even if you don't understand it immediately, you soon learn to understand what you hear. What I have from the library is a bit scratched and skips, so I'm going to spend the extra money and buy Pimsleur.
