One of my sons is intensely interested in the air war over Europe in WWII and has read a lot. This book presents three cliches of the war -- The dangerous Pacific air war, the nightly bombing raids over Germany, or the Tuskegee Airmen. All of the story lines are good, but none are very specific and they mostly just represent the most vague and widely understood aspects of WWII pilots. So this book is better suited for kids with just a vague interest, not kids with a specialized area of intense concentration. For a kid who becomes very interested, try "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos A Higher Call: An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War II and "The Candy Bomber" by Michael O. Tunnell Candy Bomber: The Story of the Berlin Airlift's "Chocolate Pilot". Lots of great memoirs out there, but these are two of the most readable.

Son kept reading them so I kept getting them for him till they ran out of title in the series! I like the way in which they have to keep going back and forth to follow different story lines- I think it is good for reading comprehension.
If you love history of World War II pilots you will love this book. Good illustrations!
