This book provides some basic information but is badly organized. In the section on Guatemalan history, which is organized chronologically, events are often described out of sequence. Better than nothing, but a great editor could make it better organized and easier to follow.
Outstanding little bit to educate myself on Guatemala before heading out for a business/school trip. It provides a great deal of information on cultural norms, the history of the country, and relevant information to help you travel the country without offending natives in the process! Big fan of it and will order them for other countries as well.
This is definitely a niche book. It is not a travel guide book or a good story. But if you are looking for a description of what people are like in gross generalities and what you are likely to face in business situations, I think it is an excellent resource. I am planning a mission trip to Guatemala in the summer and it met my needs exactly. (of course I am hoping it is actually accurate -- we shall find out after I return).
This little book is packed with useful information for those considering a visit to the beautiful country of Guatemala. It is not what you are looking for, however, if you are considering residence or a long-term stay in Guatemala.
