My 9-year-old and I settled on this after looking at almost ALL the cursive workbooks. Here's why we bought it:He preferred this COLOR workbook, which is hard to come by.He preferred learning in ALPHABETICAL ORDER (learning by stroke might be better instruction, but he's old enough to strongly prefer ABC order, and I'll give that to him since he wants this for independent study).I like this more traditional Zaner-Bloser SCRIPT STYLE better than D'Nealian since it's closer to what I learned. The book is smaller than usual--about the size of a Easy Reader "Step into Reading" style paperback. That might be a downfall for younger children, but I think my 9-year-old likes the novel size and has no trouble with fine motor skills to begin with.It has small stroke direction arrows, but no instruction on slanting or strokes. There's no comprehensive chart, so I printed one from the Internet.Other products I considered:Cursive Handwriting Workbook: Funny Cursive Writing with Hilarious Coloring PagesThis workbook has the Zaner-Bloser script I like. On top of that, it has interesting sentences to copy and is full-sized. For us, the drawbacks were that it is organized by stroke type (not ABC order) and is black-and-white.
