When the Outside wind blows Kaz away from his home and separates him from his ghost family, it's a scary thing. Kaz finds a new home and discovers a human girl who can see him. It's unsettling at first, but Claire is friendly and reassures Kaz that she can see lots of ghosts. In fact, she has a ghost notebook where she keeps track of all her ghostly sightings!Kids will have fun learning the ins and outs of Butler's ghost world, but they definitely won't be scared. Damant's cartoonish illustrations emphasize the humor involved, and the friendliness of each character. Kaz and Claire set out to solve the mystery of the library ghost -- trying to figure out who's turning off the lights and scaring the library patrons. Kaz wonders if it's his lost brother, and Claire wonders if her grandmother knows more than she's letting on.I especially love the interplay between the simple sentences and the illustrations in this chapter book. When Kaz and Claire are chasing another ghost through the library, the illustrations show the action to guide readers in a crucial moment. The words add enough description for readers to add more to their "mental movies", especially helping them understand the characters' emotions.

I bought this book for my daughter's 8th birthday. She reads on a mid-third grade level and I needed some chapter books that would hold her interest. She is big on starting books but they "bore" her and don't hold her attention for 100 pages of text. I thought I'd buy her a couple of "starter" books so if she liked them we could continue the series. She is really into Monster High right now so I thought this series might interest her. I was right. She has told me daily how much she enjoys this books and actually looks forward to her 20 minute reading time both at home and at school. Every night during bath time she tells me what she read that day.As a book lover I am so excited to see her finally showing some interest in reading! I knew if I found the right material I could get her hooked.

I chose this book for my 2nd grade class to read and they loved it! They actually loved it so much that I went ahead and bought the series! I am looking forward to reading the books and introducing them into the classroom.

My son loves this series. I find them slightly silly but I think that is one of the things he loves. This series, and the others in the Branches line, are all geared towards 'newly independant' readers. Kids who are past the learn to read books and starting on chapter books, but still enjoy pictures and slightly larger text. My son has probably moved past this level, but he still really enjoys each book that comes out.

My daughter wasn't very interested in reading most books...she said they are boring...but with this book she loves it and then she couldn't wait to read the next book...she is in 2nd grade and it is very enjoyable for me too!

My 8 year old son is having a lot of fun with this book. It has a good balance of illustration and text. He has struggled to read and is considered average for his age. We have tried to get him interested in a series and have purchased many other books. Since reading Haunted library #1 he has requested the next book in the series. He also likes the Yeti files and is waiting on pins and needles for the next in that series to be released. It is such a relief to finally get him excited about reading!

Those who grew up with Casper will love reading this series to their little ones. When a strong wind separate Kaz from the rest of his ghost family he ends up over at the town library with a stubborn older ghost that want to be left alone and young Claire who can see and hear ghosts even then they don't make themselves visible. Wishing to be a detective and having seen Kaz's brother before Claire want want to help Kaz find his ghost family. First they have to team up to solve the mystery behind the ghost sightings in the library.

I have two little girls (6 & 8) who absolutely love this series of books. The even better part is I really like the books too. So it makes story time fun for all of us. It's a really cute interesting story that keeps them wanting another chapter. So I guess the only bad thing is it makes them whine when I say that's it for tonight. :-)
