This is was required for my course, and did not come with my book. For the course I am taking, this disc is mandatory in order to complete some of the assignments and tests. There are also two other cd's of music that is referenced in the text of the book, and are likely necessary for a course using the Jazz Styles book by Gridley. I would consider all of these discs essential for a course using this book. If you dig around on You Tube, you are able to find many of the tracks on the other discs, but not this one. This disc contains material that you are not likely to find anywhere else. Ranking four out of 5 stars because I feel the price of the disc is high for just a CD in a cardboard sleeve.
