In preparation for an upcoming trip to Italy, I am immersing myself in the Italian language, including taking lessons and reading (simple) books in Italian. While this book is familiar to anyone versed in children's literature, as a bilingual book, it is better suited to readers with more than a rudimentary knowledge of Italian -- particularly verb conjugations. The book is laid out quite simply -- a few sentences of English, followed by the Italian translation. The artwork accompanying the text is charmingly old-fashioned. However, without a more solid foundation in grammar and syntax, it may be difficult for a beginning Italian language student to fully comprehend the subtleties of the language. I will revisit this book in a few months and hope to enjoy it again, armed with more language skills.
Good easy to read Italian / English book for someone wanting to improve their reading skills in either language. Format and layout is fine, but there are some mistakes with the English grammar, can't tell for Italian.
Truth to tell, I downloaded the Italian-Spanish version and only a sample of this version, but I have to defend Cinderella. I don't like the reviews I've read so far. I've had no classes in Italian, but with some knowledge of Spanish, I'm easily able to parse out the Italian sentences. Does that make me an 'intermediate' level Italian speaker? I doubt it.Using the Kindle Paper White, both the Italian and English dictionaries work fine with the book.  and the makers of the dictionaries deserve credit for making this happen.In this book, as in the Italian-Spanish version, the 2 languages displayed in a side-by-side format make this is a great way to pick up a little Italian--by going over a story that I know very well and looking up words I don't know. The pictures are a nice touch, making the book appeal to children, including the child in me.Readers trying to build some Italian (or, for that matter, English) vocabulary won't be disappointed. For the offering price, you can't really beat this book. The only point I could ding it on is the uneven spacing between words, but left justification would easily fix that. It's a job well done.
