Book appears to have been translated by a program or a non-native speaker - there are translation and typographical errors. The story and the illustrations are lovely, but as a bilingual book, it falls short. My child is able to read both the English and Korean, and he finds the mistakes to be funny. I am not as amused.
This is a really cute and adorable children's book. The illustrations are attention-grabbing, quirky, bright, fun, and colorful. You can easily find yourself just looking at the pictures to discover all that they hold even after you read the page. I just love that this book is a bilingual edition, perfect for anybody who wants to learn Korean (young or old) and or to teach Korean and English. The Korean and the English are pretty simple, easy to read, and listen along to.
Am I Small? is a book for little children and a good one. It shows that we are what we think we are plus what other people see us. It shows how other people's view is affected by their perspective, by the point on which they stand compare to us. Finally, we are many things at the same time, tiny beings if seen from space but giants if seen by a ladybug, everyone perspective is acceptable and has some truth to it. Great lessons to be learned by a child. It is the basis for tolerance, self-acceptance, and non-dogmatism.The illustrations are lovely, bright and colourful and right to the point, with a hint of fanciness.I don't know Korean, just started to read, so I cannot comment on the translation. For what other people say it is not good, so I am disappointed.I bought the book on Kindle, and the digital edition is not good. It works like some Google app book not like a modern kindle illustrated or comic book. The book directly turns the phone/tablet into landscape settings, and although one can individuate text with one tap on the screen some of the writing is so small that one would need the page to be zoomable to move around and see things properly. The book needs to be adjusted to Kindle and/or Comixology properly. Otherwise, the book it is a bit useless in this format. I would recommend buying this on hard copy. However, it is less than 1 buck, so let it stay in my kindle.
I don't understand why the description of the book is different from the title of the book. In Korean (Hangul), it reads "Am I Small? Jaega jak-nayo NOT Naega jag-ayo. Perhaps someone doesn't know Korean as well as they think.UPDATE: After receiving the book and giving it to my 6 year old daughter (we're Korean-American), she LOVED it! It was a nice balance of English and the Korean translation and she really liked the illustrations too. I'm giving this 4-stars now vs my original 3 star review.
As I am new to learning the Korean language, a children's book is a great place to begin. The same as when I was learning English as a child. This one is in both Korean and English so it a very useful little book.
My Korean in-laws love babysitting for my daughter. I'm regular old mixing pot American, but I really want my baby to get the Korean language and eventually heritage. The in-laws get to read a story to the baby in Hangook and since they are not totally fluent in English... they are getting to practice their English too! It's a win for everyone! It could only be better if there was romanized korean writing.... so I could practice my Korean. Please consider this for your future books. I know even more people would use these baby books for even adults to reinforce learning a foreign language. And I love Tamia and her pet.... I'm guessing it is a cat. It is hard for some children when everyone else in the world is so much bigger and more powerful than you. And to teach them everything is relative and they are much bigger than many creatures in the world! Thank you and "kam-sa-mida"!
I'm a 19 year old college student, and I'm majoring in Korean. After reading this book a few times through, I understand how Korean adjectives work.
The Korean isn't correct. The writer clearly isn't a native speaker. It's funny (and sad) that so many people feel they are learning from this book...Beautiful illustrations, though.Update: A week later, I found the book in the wastebasket. I asked my wife about it and she said that she just didn't like reading incorrect Korean to our child. Oh well.
