Will he ever make it to Iceland?Avi writes a fantastic end to the CRISPIN trilogy in THE END OF TIME. Full of twists and turns, the reader is never left bored. Avi creates a beloved character that the reader roots for from beginning to end. However, be forewarned: the ending will leave you wanting more.Reviewed by: Steph
An amazing writer, my two children, aged 9 and 11, and I, read all three books of this trilogy right through. Gripping, beautifully written, historically rich. Avi puts us into another time and shows us the lives of those who are not often seen in our histories: the poor, the people just getting by, the outlawed, the sick and the survivors. My one and only wish were that the last 2 books of the series had some of the bright moments that the first had. In the first, Bear is so alive; he is a force for life. And in the last two, we have little escape from the darkness.
This book gives the reader an insiders view of how life was for many of this time. The dangers, the probabilities, the intrique, as well as the indepth decription of each area caused vivid pictures in the mind.I would recommend this series to anyone from age 6 to 106, its a classic!
The best part of AVI's Crispin trilogy is that he takes kids and teens as real people with real concerns. In this book Crispin is still dealing with problems most American kids don't have...but some do and others in luckier circumstances need to know that. A thought-provoking story.
He read one of these in school so I bought the others and he seems to enjoy them - as much as any I guess - it is a battle to keep my 12 year old away from tv or videos and to even consider reading. His lit teacher really liked these books.
I love these books! Avi writes for a younger reader, but adults who enjoy descriptive, engaging stories will love his work as well. I really appreciate that while he writes mainly for a younger audience (9-15+), he does not "dumb down" his work for kids. He writes in such a way that children can understand and follow along, but it isn't the mindless garbage that so many produce in this genre. His historical stories are lush with detail, and kids can really imagine the characters, and the lives that they lead. A great read!
My Crispin. There are 3 books in this series and they are all great. Crispin has a hell of a life. All the fixes he gets in.All the adventures. I enjoyed these books so much. I hope Avi will pick up the story of Crispin again someday and give us a 4th.
I have read this with sixth graders that have strong reading skills. I have yet to find a child who doesn't get hooked by the Crispin series! I could not put the books down and shared them with my mom who also read all three and loved them!
