Atmosphere, mystery and non stop action compete with the compelling human interest in this book, as we get irretrievably drawn into the homecoming story of an ex-Amish cop coming back to her community in pursuit of a deadly, ruthless and seemingly random killer. With shock after shock, the mystery deepens, and death and destruction threaten to overwhelm a burgeoning personal peace..more would ruin the story. If you like mysteries, a bit of romance and strong women characters set in an enchanting but deceptively peaceful setting, you can cant go wrong with Undercover Amish.
The title and cover of this book caught my attention. Like many people, I have a fascination with the Amish. So to see the Amish character dressed in traditional garb with the unlikely title "Undercover Amish" across her skirt was more than I could resist. It peaked my curiosity and drew me in. I learned a lot about the Amish population, which I found very interesting, in this detective/love story. And I am so glad it did! "Undercover Amish" was an easy read, drew me into the story within the first few pages and keep me fully engaged until the very last page with its twists and turns and character development. It has been a long time since actual tears were elicited when reading a book but -- seriously -- I truly did shed some. I guess it was the human forgiveness and support that touched me.I would recommend Undercover Amish to others. The author, Ashley Emma, has seemingly set up the characters to lead into a potential series of undercover detective stories so I will definitely be on the look out for the next book in this detective series. NICE JOB.
What a great story! I was drawn in from the very beginning. The character development leaves one attached and entrenched in the plot. The end of every chapter leaves one ready to dive into the next. It was a fast-paced, easy read, yet it was intriguing and thoughtful. I thoroughly enjoyed Undercover Amish, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a mystery, romance novel, or both.
An exciting romantic detective mystery/thriller. The author gives us a good insight into the day to day life and the beliefs of the Amish people while showing us how an outsider might view this interesting religious and cultural group. I don't know much about the Amish, but the information provided certainly sounded plausible and realistic. The story makes one believe that this author might have some "inside information" into this community. The story is fast paced with a good story line. Although there was some predictability, there are some unusual twists and turns with a surprise ending. I loved the book and would like to read more stories by this author.
This was a really good book with a different twist than other Amish romances I have read. It reminded me a lot of the movie "A Stranger Among Us" when the police officer went under cover in the Chassidic Jewish community to solve a case. In fact, I could see this book as a movie. I loved Olivia and understood her conflict of not being able to tell Isaac and her relatives what was going on and wanting to keep her job. Isaac was wonderful, and had his own conflicts like wanting to buy a gun to protect Olivia, but knowing he was going against the church. There were a lot of plot twists I didn't expect. I loved the Maine setting, too!
Liv had always lived Amish. Not long after her marriage he began to hit her in anger but her mother we dead and she went to her mother-in-law and showed her the bruise on her back. She pretended she didn't believe her, saying her son would not do that. Liv saw the hurt in her eyes and suspected her mother-in-law was abused ,too. This story is different from any Amish suspense I have ever read. If you like this type book you will love this one.
This book is at the top of the list! One of the best I've read in a long time. The twists and turn in the investigation. The Amish community, undercover work and rekindling of romance, weave an intriguing story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The premise is that a former Amish woman, who, in the years since she left the Amish community, has become a member of CPDU, is asked to return to her Amish community to work undercover to figure out who killed one of its members and injured another. Since the Amish don't usually report crimes to the police, CPDU believes the people there will talk more to someone they think is one of their own than they would to a police officer. The author attempts to head off any protests of the Amish aren't really like that or Police can't really do that by writing an introduction stating that she thoroughly researched the Maine Amish and created her own agency to allow it to have the rules she wants. Unfortunately, the introduction is so lengthy that it almost starts to feel like a "she doth protest too much" to me.
