I think it's impossible for Brad Dennison to write a bad book. A lot of series authors have novels somewhere in the series that bog down...not Dennision. The well doesn't seem to run dry. He is, without a doubt a master wordsmith and an absolute genius in fleshing out his characters. You feel as if you know them personally and I found myself talking to them...I wonder if Brad does too, when he's writing?I sometimes consider myself part of the McCabe family, just hope I don't piss off Aunt Ginny though.Just keep the McCabe saga coming, pilgrim. You have a fan.Ken Farmer - Author of The Nation series.
This is an excellent series and I hope that there is at least one more. It seems as though there should be another book since the epilogue just didn't take care of all the loose ends. I really liked the way the characters were brought to life with a, not too lengthy, description. I highly recommend this series.
This series just gets better and better! The McCabe family and all their friends are the good stuff the west was made of! This 5th book is so good it made me want to re-read them all, and I did just that. I started from the beginning and got reacquainted with the family and fell in love with them all over again! This author brings to life such a wonderful family, with all the same family issues many families have, yet they stick together no matter what. How Dusty joins the family and feels like an outsider, to both Josh and Jack that are raised by Johnny McCabe, yet they feel that their lives are defined by his. And Dad Johnny and Aunt Ginny are remarkable in themselves, for once they realize how the boys feel, they do their best to help them realize that you do not have to live in the shadow of anyone, all that matters is who you are as a person! Good lessons to this very day. I love the McCabes and look forward to the next book, and many more for that matter! These are well defined characters and they stay consistent throughout all the books. I highly recommend you start at book one and go from there... even of you have already read these once. They're still remarkable books and you won't be disappointed!PS-and little sister Bree is a McCabe through and through! Can't wait for her and 'Charles's' story to come to life!!
Brad Dennison is a great author. He truly knows the old west and can bring it to life. This is the fifth book in the series. I have enjoyed them all and each one keeps me hooked. Once I start reading one, I can't seem to put it down until I am finished. While waiting for a new release, I often find myself rereading the series.I think these would make a great weekly television series. If you like westerns this is definitely a series of books to read. I hope Mr. Dennison keeps writing several more books for this series.
A number of things can go wrong on a trail drive when men are paid to make sure that you don't return. Another excellent Western from Dennison. If you enjoy reading Westerns, try the McCabe series and you will enjoy each one.
Just finished "Trail Drive" last night, and thought "I hope he gets another 'McCabe' out soon!"I just love the way Brad writes. He is so knowledgeable about how things were in the Old West. I learn something new every book.I don't think Larry Mcmurtry has much over Brad Dennisonj! His stories always have three or four back stories going on and they converge into one great finish, but he always leaves one the thing undone for the next story. Bravo!
This is another suspense book about the McCabe family. It continues with a family I have enjoyed. Always seeking a lost family member, then spinning a tale of suspense and loyalty around that individual
I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting book where the action never stops. I am finding these books to be very difficult to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.
